ArtFields 2018

MW Studios ArtFields 2018 postcard

In November, we applied to ArtFields, an acclaimed celebration and competition of arts in the Southeast. A few weeks ago, we delivered “Pod” to Lake City, SC. We have been busy preparing for the Makers Market, held on Saturday, April 21 and Sunday, April 22. We are looking forward to venturing out and expanding our reach – the first time we are going to a show as MW Studios. Find out more about the entry below. Continue reading “ArtFields 2018”

Holiday Party at MW Studios

Copy of [Original size] Let's Be Merry!

Join us this Saturday, December 16 from 6-9 for an event featuring refreshments (from our friends over at Homeplace), live music, and holiday shopping!

In the spirit of the season, we will be collecting donations to gift to Shortbus Studio, a local program that “has become the model for inclusive programs where outdoor adventure, volunteering and the arts are used to build collaborations and everyday relationships between people with disabilities and their communities.”

Toe River Arts Holiday Studio Tour

We are excited to participate in the 24th Annual Toe River Arts Holiday Studio Tour this weekend, Friday, December 1-Sunday, December 3. As first-time participants, we are really looking forward to the experience. Our studio/gallery is close to downtown Burnsville and easy to find!

During the tour, we will be open from 10-5 each day. On Fridays, we are regularly open until 6 PM but we will close an hour early in order to attend the Holiday Studio Tour Reception at the Spruce Pine Toe River Arts Council.

During the tour, we will hold our regular Fiddlehead Yoga Align & Flow All-Levels Class on Saturday morning from 8:30 to 9:45 AM. This will be a special opportunity to stretch out your body and calm your mind before venturing out to see this beautiful region’s rich community of artists.

MW Studios Grand Opening

MW Studios grand opening flyerPlease join us on Saturday, September 23 from 6-9 PM for our grand opening. We have spent months transforming this building from a cinder block shell to a vibrant and creative space – time to celebrate! There will be refreshments, live music (Evan Baker), we’ll be showing you around our workshop, and there will be a raffle of an original piece with the proceeds going to Shortbus Studio.

We want to welcome the community to come enjoy the space that we have worked so hard to create, so come on by! Check out the Facebook event here and follow us for updates on events, photos of work in progress and new pieces, as well as other local happenings. Also take a look on Instagram (@mwstudiosnc).

Building Renovation

This blog will document progress on our business, show some behind the scene glances at projects, and is a place for relevant announcements such as events and classes. Check back often and let us know if there is anything in particular that you would like to see here!

We began renovations on our commercial building in Burnsville, NC in late March 2017. We have come a long way since… check it out below. We can’t wait to have you join us at our location, opening to the public on August 2.

We first visited the location in February, and you see what the raw building looked like at that time. We wrote down all of our plans that day as we walked around the space, envisioning our ideal studio and gallery space. We secured the building and got to work as soon as we could. We built a dividing wall and office, painted, cleaned out and demolished the existing shed and re-sheathed it, scraped and painted the outside of the building, reinforced the garage door, waterproofed in places that had leaks, hauled a ton (literally) of asphalt away, did a little landscaping, a few coats of paint on the gallery floor, fabricated and hung our sign! Thankfully there wasn’t much blood – but there was sweat, a few tears, some handstands and a lot of late nights to make this possible. The last row of photos is the gallery today – still a work in progress but it’s come a long way and we can’t wait to use this space.
